If you have any difficulty deciding or require assistance with which machine you require, please do not hesitate to contact us here at UK CPAP for further assistance.

Here are some basic important things to understand before deciding your CPAP machine:

CPAP: Continuous Positive Airway Pressure therapy is the most recommended and the most effective treatment for sleep disorders such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). A CPAP machine provides air at a constant pressure through a tube and out of a CPAP mask to a person during sleep. CPAP therapy provides a constant airflow which holds the airway open so that uninterrupted breathing is maintained during sleep. This eliminates sleep apnea events and allows the user to get a restful sleep. The pressure of the air is determined by a sleep study.

CPAP Auto (APAP): Automatic Positive Airway Pressure machines adjust in a breath by breath basis to your ideal pressure. These being the more popular and successful machines.

CPAP BiLevel (BiPAP): These devices haves two different adjustable pressure levels. A higher level for inspiration and a lower level for expiration.

Portable: Some machines are small, compact and lightweight ideal for those who enjoy camping or traveling. Some machines will have battery pack for times where mains power is unavailable.

Noise Level: All CPAP machine will produce a low level noise. The amount of noise may effect you or others so some machines have been developed with a low noise output.

Humidifier: When using CPAP, air with low moisture can dry out and irritate your nose and throat, especially for new users adjusting to the therapy. This can make your air passages uncomfortable and cause congestion. Nasal congestion also leads to mouth breathing, which perpetuates the problem of dryness. Humidifiers add moisture to the air from the CPAP machine reducing systems of dryness and congestion.

Flexline: Some machines will have Flexline mode, the pressure adjusts proportionally to the individual respiration flow. This means an increase in pressure on inspiration and a reduction in pressure on expiration. This results in a particularly gentle therapy.
